Maybe I'm worrying over nothing but...
I've been gazing with awe at the hchamp.com and ephemera.com and wondering if perhaps I should have gone after a Digital Rebel and not the Nikon 5700. Don't get me wrong, I love the Nikon, it's a great camera, but the Digital Rebel seems better, turning out sharper photographs.
Either the 5700 isn't good enough and I should have stumped up the extra Yoyos for the Digital Rebel, or my photographs aren't at the same level as H's and D's.
Oh, the things I worry about! Heh.

Re: Second thoughts on the Nikon 5700
Sat, January 24, 2004 - 1:56 AMDigital Rebel is a brilliant, *brilliant* camera. Pricey, but very nice. If I could save the cash for a digital SLR, I'd get one. -

Re: Second thoughts on the Nikon 5700
Mon, January 26, 2004 - 3:36 PMi have the 990 (yeah i know a "dated" nikon) however i've always been impressed with its macro ability WITHOUT any lense adaptors, www.safesolvent.com/personal_p.../rainclouds
there are a few that i took that i deem "pretty close and clear" for no macro LENS persay
but im actually looking to get a new camera soon. this one is great, but for my magazine print layouts, i need atleast another 2.5 megapixels for the kinda results im looking for
so im thinkin another nikon.... am i mistaken? this REBEL you speak of... i want more user feedback. anyone out here OWN the rebel?
can you give comparison shots or somethin? heh
oh and hugo. you multiply like the other hugo,
hugo weavings... Agent smith?
323 photos in your profile, jeesus you are the main storage on tribe.net... without you they free up 2gig of space :)
hahah keep doin it tho its awesome -

Re: Second thoughts on the Nikon 5700
Mon, January 26, 2004 - 5:41 PMfirstly i agree with hugo, that there's more to photography than a good camera and creativity is an integral part.
i have a rebel. i love my rebel. my previous camera was the nikon 990. aside from the jump in megapixels, the key difference i see between the nikon and my new rebel is the depth of field that can be achieved with a traditional lens -- that's the joy of a digital slr.
if you're a nikon guy, they're coming out with a "prosumer" level digital slr sometime in the next few months.
if you're looking for tips on what camera to get, i'd head over to dprreview and check out their forums and camera comparisons:

Re: Second thoughts on the Nikon 5700
Mon, January 26, 2004 - 9:48 PMmy school bought a slew of the nikon 3100's for students to use, and that has amazing macro...but I would never own one because it doesn't have anything else that I want in a camera. I like to check the 3100 out a lot tho and get closeups with that...

Re: Second thoughts on the Nikon 5700
Tue, January 27, 2004 - 4:19 AMIt's not that the 5700 is a bad camera, I just feel that perhaps I want more than it provides and didn't realise that when I got it, and should have gone for a non-Nikon one instead.
I saw the D70 get talked about when I was in the market for a camera in October, but it was some months away at the time - looks like maybe March or April will be the release date, so I went for the 5700.
I couldn't wait though, I had no camera at all, as my parents got my Nikon 990 for their time in Africa, and I wanted a replacement asap.
But maybe when the D70 comes out I'll take a look at it...
All that said though, Heather and Hugo are right - there's a lot more to photography than the camera.

Re: Second thoughts on the Nikon 5700
Tue, January 27, 2004 - 4:24 AMJust my two cents. A few years back Nikon was KING OF THE HILL on digital cameras market, then especially with their compacts they gave up field to Canon, Sony, Olympus and Fujifilm. At this point the release of Canon Digital Rebel - will seriously damage market share held by high end prosumer models like Nikon 5700, Sony F828, Minolta A1, and Fujifilm 7000 and Olympus E series. Canon developed and improved technology around CMOS sensors while other manufactures worked with much more expensive CCD technology trying to put more and more pixels on the same size (VERY SMALL) sensors see www.tribe.net/tribe/uploa...26c6e1820a94
Due to larger size of pixels Canon has obviously advantage in overall picture quality (low noise), not to mention the fact that they manufacture everything in house and were able to use low cost "analog" body for quick remake. I was about to buy one but than had a second thought - and went instead with an old style analog camera. Not an obvious choice but I am very satisfied indeed. Check also a thread here a while back on Digital vs. conventional - good reading!
Getting back to digital - you can easily imagine all other makers will try to follow Canon`s way and possibly within second part of the year reveal what they have been working on and kept hidden in the pipeline.
More links for headaches - aging digital sensors tend to develop their own share of problems (not much info on manufactures Web sites but found at least this one)(Nikon Singapore).
